Brass Tubes — manufactured and exported by Melta Alloys, Umbergaon, Gujarat.

Brass tubes combine a warm gold finish with excellent formability, good corrosion resistance and easy machining and joining. They appear in plumbing, lighting, musical instruments, radiators, instrumentation, furniture and architectural trim. As a brass tubes manufacturer in India, we help buyers choose among the alloys, tempers and standards. Here is what to know before you order.

What Is Brass?

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Raising zinc content increases strength and lowers cost but reduces corrosion resistance and cold ductility. Small additions of lead, tin, aluminium or arsenic tailor the alloy for machining, seawater or inhibited service. Seamless brass tubes are produced by extruding cast billets and drawing them to final size.

Standards for Brass Tubes

  • ASTM B135: seamless brass tube
  • ASTM B111: copper-alloy condenser and heat-exchanger tubes
  • EN 12449: seamless round copper and copper alloy tubes for general purposes
  • EN 12451: seamless round tubes for heat exchangers
  • IS 407: brass tubes for general purposes

Tempers

  • Soft annealed (O60/O61): maximum ductility for bending, flaring and swaging.
  • Light drawn (H55): light cold work for stiffness with moderate bendability.
  • Hard drawn (H80): higher strength and hardness for straight, rigid parts.
  • Stress-relieved: low residual stress to prevent season cracking in service.

Shapes and Sizes

Besides round tube, brass tubes are available as square, rectangular and hexagonal sections for architectural railing, furniture, instrument housings and fittings. Round brass tube is commonly supplied from about 6 mm to 150 mm OD with walls from 0.5 mm upwards, in lengths of 3 m to 6 m and cut to order. Precision tube with tight OD and wall tolerances is used for instrumentation, nozzles and telescopic assemblies.

How Seamless Brass Tubes Are Made

  1. Melting and alloying of electrolytic copper and zinc under controlled conditions.
  2. Billet casting by continuous or semi-continuous methods.
  3. Hot extrusion at roughly 650–750 °C into hollow shells.
  4. Cold drawing with intermediate anneals to reduce size and set the temper.
  5. Stress-relief annealing in a controlled furnace.
  6. Straightening, cutting and cleaning.
  7. Testing: chemistry, dimensions, mechanical properties, flattening or expansion, and pressure or eddy-current testing.

Fabricating and Finishing Brass Tubes

Brass bends and flares easily in the soft temper and can be silver brazed, soft soldered, threaded or press formed. Surface finishes include natural mill finish, polished, satin, lacquered and electroplated chrome or nickel. For potable water systems, check lead and dezincification requirements of the local regulations.

Applications of Brass Tubes

  • Plumbing, sanitary fittings, taps, shower arms and valves
  • Radiators and small heat exchangers
  • Musical instruments such as brass bands, trombones and tubas
  • Lighting, lamp stems and decorative fixtures
  • Instrumentation, gauge connections and pneumatic lines
  • Architectural railings, furniture and handles
  • Marine and automotive components

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between brass tube and copper tube?

Copper tube is pure copper (99.9%); brass tube is a copper-zinc alloy. Brass is stronger and cheaper but less suitable for fluids that cause dezincification unless it is an inhibited alloy.

Which brass grade is best for general tubes?

C26000 (cartridge brass, 70/30) is the best all-round grade for formable tubes; C23000 red brass is preferred for plumbing and C44300 for cooling-water heat exchangers.

Can you supply square and rectangular brass tubes?

Yes. Square, rectangular and hexagonal brass tubes can be made to order; send dimensions, wall and length.

Do you supply brass tubes in small quantities?

MOQ depends on size and alloy. Share your requirement and we will confirm.
